Previous Events

Virtual Car Crash Test (Joint event with SAE Detroit)
Watch a recording of the virtual tour and crash test at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. At this event, participants will see how a vehicle is prepared for crash-testing and experience the final countdown to impact. You’ll then get to watch the crash in slow motion from different angles. Finally, you’ll learn about the post-crash measurements and calculations used to translate the test results into a final rating. IIHS experts will be available to answer all your questions following the presentation.

Virtual Car Show
SAE Washington DC hosted their first virtual car show on October 28th.  It was a huge success with 14 entries and 1.5 hours of talking about cars.  Congrats to our four winners: Brian with his 1976 Continental Mark IV as Best in Show, Bill with his 1965 Shelby Cobra replica kit in 2nd Place, Sushant with his 2017 Mercedes C300 for best artistic photograph and Konstantin for his 1981 Mercedes G-Wagen as Most Unique.  We hope to have another virtual car show in Spring!

Virtual Happy Hours

SAE Washington DC Section has adjusted to the challenges of 2020 by hosting virtual events.  So far, we've hosted two transportation trivia Happy Hours for members to network and share their transportation knowledge.  We look forward to planning more virtual events in 2020 and 2021 to keep members engaged.

Annual SAE DC Golf Tournament

The Washington DC Section hosted it's third annual golf tournament, September 4, 2020.  It looked a little different this year, but overall was a beautiful day for networking and golfing and getting out of your (home) office for the day.  Our inaugural golf tournament in 2018 raised over $2K to support area students in science and engineering.  We look forward to hosting this event each year as it enables us to continue our mission to reach out to support students in the greater DC area.  Stay tuned for details for the 2021 tournament.
